Ditmas Park.

Like most families, our clients wanted a place to gather and hang out together and with friends. In space-challenged Brooklyn, that meant expanding up into the underused converted attic of their Victorian townhome. We began by reorganizing the space, creating designated spots for a variety of family activities, from watching movies to playing board games to quiet reading.

Then we gave the family room design a fun new attitude, indulging the clients’ love of color and pattern with energetic layers of interest: a Missoni-style zig zag rug; antique Lorenz chairs custom-upholstered in hot pink; a custom-colored Womb chair; and what looks like a boulder of carrera marble, but is really a lightweight pouf. To maximize function as well as fun, we incorporated plenty of storage throughout, including inside the new window seat. Fresh, inviting, and highly personal, the updated attic is now the undisputed hub of the home.
